Valentine’s Day, your health, & an ukulele a day!

10 February

Dear Folks & Friends,

Here is a quick look at events coming up this month. Hope to see you out and about!

Kaia CD Release Party. 8pm, Saturday, 2/11, Unitarian Universalist Church, 2120 N. Fee Lane, $12 adults/$8 children 12 and under. I mention this one because Kid Kazooey’s drummer, accordionist, and wife (Lara Lynn Weaver/Gantzy Dander) sings, writes, and arranges for this women’s acapella group! This is Kaia’s first performance since two years ago when they played back to back standing room only shows at Lotus! They are seriosly good, and a lot of fun! Go to this show and thank me later.

Kid Kazooey & two BallRoom Roustabouts sing songs of love. 3-4:30pm, Sunday, 2/12, Max’s Place. $5 suggested donation. Now I know that there are plenty of folks who are cynical about Valentine’s Day. Too much romantic consumerism, flowers and chocolate sold and bought with ne’er a thought of their carbon footprint, etc… Then there’s the many versions of the allegedly true story of St. Valentine that can be rather misleading… But I, for one, love the reminder and opportunity to think on and celebrate romantic love, if for no other reason than good ol’ George and Ira Gershwin! What great love songs! Lara will sing ’em, I’ll strum ’em on the ukulele, and long time/part time Ballroom Roustabout Steve Mascari will hold down the groove on bass.

Kid Kazooey w/ Bloomington Ukulele Group (pre-show to The Muppet Movie). 9:30am, Buskirk Chumley Theatre, Saturday, 2/18. $10 in advance, $12 at the door ($5 & $7 for children under 12).So, I’ve been attending bimonthly get togethers with the Bloomington Ukulele Group. So much fun. All levels of musicianship and EVERYONE sings! Check them out on Facebook, and if you play, join us! Anywho, we will both play a little music before the Cardinal Stage’s fundraising event, Day at the Movies. Support Cardinal Stage, please! They hired Kid Kazooey to do the Click Clack Moo show, and I’m ever grateful!

Kid Kazooey at Children’s Health Expo. 1:30-3p, Saturday, 2/18, Fairview Elementary. Free.  Your health. Important, right? Yup. How about the health of your children? Doubly so, right? Well, that’s where the Children’s Health Expo comes in. And even though it sounds boring, it’s not. They’ve hired some first rate entertainment to keep you occupied as you check out what the community has to offer you and your family to get and stay healthy and fit!

Kid Kazooey & Friends Party Mardi! 4-5p, Tuesday, 2/21, Player’s Pub. $10 in advance/$15 at door.Oh, I LOVE this gig! I’ll play piano ala Professor Longhair (or at least fake it!) while my wife and Mike Mixtaki lay down funky New Orleans and carribean rhythms, and Dennis Riggins blows his sax tonaliciously! What’s not to like about that? This gig was my favorite gig of the year last year (tied with New Years)! We will play in the back room, where you ARE allowed to bring your kids, and where the food is delicious (and kid friendly)!

Wow! Is that all me doing all that? Somebody get me some bath salts! In addition to all that, I’m finishing up The Ballroom Roustabouts’ long awaited recording/CD, Umpteen Moons, AND mine and Joe Lee’s picture book for kids, The Three Eyed Dragon! Both will be released and celebrated with a big party on Sunday, April 1, at The Fountain Square Ballroom. Stay tuned for more info!

If I forgot anything, you’ll want to check out the Kid Kazooey & The Ballroom Roustabouts’ facebook page! Otherwise, I’d like to now take any questions from my lovely audience… Any questions?

Blessings on your heads!
